More than a devotional

Truth, compassion, and practical next steps.

The journey back requires more than encouragement alone. This book examines how spiritual distance develops, what repentance and restoration require, and how a returning believer can rebuild a stable and faithful life.

Each chapter joins biblical teaching with honest reflection and an observable next step—without minimizing sin, shame, wounded trust, church hurt, mental health concerns, or the need for appropriate support.

Chapter 4: Coming to Yourself · Page 43

The Moment of Recognition

The prodigal son's return began before he reached his father's house. Jesus said, “And when he came to himself” (Luke 15:17). He recognized the truth about his condition, remembered the character of his father, and decided to rise.

Coming to yourself is the moment denial loses its power. A person may have known the facts for months and still avoided their meaning. The prodigal knew he was hungry. The turning point came when he admitted that remaining in the far country made no sense while there was bread in his father's house.

Recognition alone is not repentance. Many people see what is wrong and remain where they are. The prodigal joined understanding to action: “I will arise and go to my father” (Luke 15:18). Restoration moves when truth becomes a decision.
